What is Pilates?

Pilates works the core and superficial muscles to increase muscular strength, achieve graceful movement, increase body awareness, improve postural alignment and breath control. The Pilates exercises deliver simultaneous stretching and strengthening.​​​​​​​​​​​​

Developed in the 1920's by Joseph Pilates, his system is designed to strengthen the human mind and body. Joseph Pilates believed the two were connected, and only by training and exercising them together could you truly reach your peak.   It aims to increase flexibility and strength as well as integrate body and mind and induce a sense of relaxation and well being.  Poor posture, weak muscles and habitual patterns of misuse due to injury or
poor posture make the body inefficient and out of balance creating problems with alignment and good movement patterns.  Pilates helps to restore the body’s natural alignment, helping to bring it into balance so that it can move more efficiently with grace,ease and minimal effort.

Our Pilates classes offer something for everyone; from the beginner who has never heard of Pilates to the expert that has been doing it for years. At SPYNE Pilates Studio you can receive mat training or attend equipment classes. Our instructors are willing to train with you one-on-one or in a smaller group setting.
